TESTING of the River Severn has been carried out by the Maesmawr Group as part of the UK Great WaterBlitz.
Over the weekend of September 20-23, 2024 members of the public could sign up to receive a water testing kit and become citizen scientists by testing their local waterbody.
River water was tested by the Group in two Mid Wales’ towns – the centre of Llanidloes and also the centre of Newtown.
The amount of phosphates and nitrates were found to be minimal and therefore, according to the initiative, “this waterbody has a very good ecological status. Nutrient concentrations are low.”
